Documentary film “Protect your dignity”: about anti-cultists

“Anti-Cultists are constantly looking for and inventing new cults. They need cults otherwise they will stop making money. Every morning they wake up with only one thought: ‘Where can I find a new sect?’” – Professor Massimo Introvigne

The documentary “Protect your dignity” is based on real events that began on September 2, 2015 in an ordinary Ukrainian family. As a result of the actions of a group of the Ukrainian, Russian and French religious extremists (Alexander Dvorkin, Alexander Neveev, Dmitry Bakayev, Maria Kovaleva, and others), an unsuccessful attempt was made to destroy the Fate-Analysis Institute and the Redut Law Company by means of slanderous accusations. However, the main storyline of the film is a family drama of Julia Yalovaya, who had to fight for her liberty at the age of 19.

The fim demonstrates how the anti-cultist group weaponized the parents of Julia Yalovaya in an attempt to destroy the business reputation of the scholar Oleg Maltsev. This provides a case-study in the methods used by extremists seeking to exploit fear and panic for financial gain.

“When I was running down the long corridor in the police station, I wanted to run away from everyone. But most of all at that moment I hated my mother. In fact, she betrayed me. Because of her, they just locked me up at the police station for eight hours. There was nothing I could do about it. There was only anger and hatred”, says Julia Yalovaya in the film.

The film “Protect your dignity” is a joint Ukrainian-Belgian production, made in cooperation with the Public Organization “Kavalyer”, the Organization “Human Rights Without Frontiers International”, the Unsolved Crimes Newspaper, and the Information Security Institute. The creators of this film wish to thank Willy Fautré (Director of HRWF, Belgium).
